The ISCVE ECS card scheme matches the requirements of the CSCS scheme, in that it is compulsory that all participants must hold an up-to-date health & safety qualification in order to be awarded with a card. This is designed to prevent accidents and to promote safety and quality of work.
However, to hold an ISCVE Sound Engineer ECS card or an ISCVE AV Engineer ECS card you must pass the ECS H&S assessment and Electrical Safety assessment. Unfortunately, the ECS scheme does not allow the ISCVE to accept a CSCS H&S assessment. The ECS H&S test is specifically designed to meet the basic H&S requirements of electrotechnical personnel.
Those who successfully pass the ECS H&S assessment will be awarded with an ECS H&S Certificate, which, along with the Electrical Safety Certificate, can then be used to obtain an ISCVE ECS card within two years of passing the assessment.
Candidates will need to bring:
- A minimum of a 9″ web enabled device in order to take the assessment. A mobile phone will not be adequate.
- Photo ID; original passport, driving licence or existing ECS card
- National Insurance Number – will need to be confirmed on the day
The assessment consists of multiple choice questions, randomly selected from a database of approximately 300. It is a ‘closed book’ assessment – no revision materials will be allowed into the exam room.
The ECS H&S assessment has 45 questions to be completed in 30 minutes. 38 out of 45 correct answers will be needed to pass the assessment.
The assessment comprises questions covering eleven topics. The numbers of questions randomly selected from each topic are:
1 – Manual Handling Operations
2 – Reporting Accidents
3 – Personal Protective Equipment at Work
4 – Health and Hygiene
5 – Fire and Emergency
6 – Work at Height
7 – Work Equipment
8 – Special Site Hazards
9 – Electrotechnical
10 – Environmental
11 – General Health and Safety at Work
Assessment Tests are final once submitted and cannot be amended by ISCVE.
An ECS Question and Answer Book is available to help candidates prepare for their ECS Health and Safety Assessment. Due to the specific electrical content in the ECS assessment, books supplied by other agencies (CITB etc) are not appropriate. The ECS Question and Answer Book contains all the questions and answers from the database that is currently used for the assessment.
Please note, we require candidates to obtain the question and answer book at least ten working days prior to sitting the assessment, to allow adequate time for preparation. In the case of in-company or multiple bookings, it is the Employer’s responsibility to ensure that this condition is satisfied.
